After thrashing the Mid Avon Golf Society in the match last
year, Graham Bilsland was looking for revenge and got off to a great start when
BUNGS had a player drop-out at the last moment, so Mid Avon started one up
before a ball was struck.
Despite being a point behind before they even started and
facing the notoriously high handicaps of the Mid-Avon mob, BUNGS fought
resiliantly in the morning fourballs winning three matches, halving one and
losing two to lead 3.5 - 2.5 at lunch.
A hurried lunch was undertaken before the singles got
underway. Once again, the BUNGS class shone through with 7 wins, one half
and 3 losses to eventually triumph 10 - 6 overall.
Better luck in 2003 Graham.
Friday 11th May 2002
Kibworth Golf Club, Leicester
Kibworth Golf Club was the venue for our first match against
another society which took place on Friday 11th May. The match was against
Mid Avon Golf Society and was organised by Graham Bilsland, who plays in both
societies (but played for Mid Avon on this occasion).
Our team consisted of: Chris Craddy, Martyn Dodwell, Steve
Lloyd, John Newton, Andy Smith, Ian Talboys, Darren Weston & Paul Weston.
The match was played over 36 holes and comprised four-ball
better-ball matches in the morning followed by singles in the afternoon.
Upon seeing the opposition's handicaps, it was thought that BUNGS had no chance
of winning the match, especially with Graham playing off 6 (he plays off scratch
with BUNGS). However, BUNGS won all four of the
morning fourball matches and then proceeded to take five of the eight afternoon
singles to win the match 9-3. Best of all was Graham Bilsland proving he's
a mere mortal after all by not only losing both of his matches but his temper in
fine style. Thank you to all those who represented the society in this
match.
