Set amongst the pine trees and sand dunes of the Lancashire Coast, the course provides a wonderfully varied challenge to the visitor. The course is just 5,374 yards with a Standard Scratch Score of 72 but the tight fairways and well guarded greens demand skill and precision from golfers of all levels. Indigenous heather protects much of the rough and great caution is required at many holes. Even a mighty hitter like double Open Champion, Greg Norman, could not disguise his admiration for this hidden gem when he played it a few years ago: “Over 100 years old and still your course can stand the test of time” he said. “What a beautiful course, it clearly shows that courses do not need to be 7,000 yards plus to be formidable”.

Voted 18th best course in England, Formby Golf Club is a true championship links course unlike any other. Running through mature sand dunes and pinewoods, the combination of well protected greens, undulating fairways and challenging tee shots signifies a course of magnificent contrasts. Formby’s links are set amongst coastal sand dunes and towering pines. The undulating fairways are planted with traditional rye grasses and flat lies are rare. Add strategically placed pot bunkers and frequent changes of wind strength and direction to the mix and the new visitor will quickly discover why Formby is so popular with discerning golfers. The Links at Formby Golf Club were founded in 1884 and have been sensitively modernised over the years, to ensure it remains a challenging but enjoyable test of golf. The course has been used to stage a number of events down the years, including the 1984 and 2009 Amateur Championships and the 2004 Curtis Cup. The Amateur Championship will return to Formby in 2018.

A 4-star hotel is set in the heart of the town’s glamorous waterfront development. The luxury hotel rooms offer a stylish setting, all the rooms have king size beds and the modern facilities you would expect of a Four Star Hotel including 32-inch plasma TV, Free Wi-Fi, a built in fridge, ironing facilities, in-room safe, a selection of complimentary blockbuster movies and tea and coffee making facilities. The Marine Brasserie - a top Southport restaurant offers mouthwatering menus ane the hotel also boasts a modern fitness suite.
As links courses, even though Formby Ladies and Formby are well drained and frost tends not to hit the coast so there shouldn't be any temporsry green issues, snow would inevitably close the courses. In the unlikely event of this happening, you must all be aware that you may well lose your deposits. The hotel are unlikely to accept a cancellation at very short notice, so the choice would be to either travel to the hotel for a non-golfing get-together or stay at home but still pay for the hotel.
