BUNGS Tour 2012 - North Wales
7th July to 9th July 2012
The spectacular
peninsula holes at Nefyn & District.
The 2012 tour will see the society re-visit North Wales where
we will play three outstanding links courses with dinner, bed
and breakfast at The Lion Hotel in Criccieth
UPDATE Due to there now being 40 people
attending and The Lion Hotel not being able to accommodate the
number of single rooms required, four of the party will be
staying at the nearby
Caerwylan Hotel. Evening meals to be taken with the rest of
the group at The Lion.
As usual, we will split into two teams and play a ‘Ryder Cup’
style match.
FRIDAY 6TH JULY 2012
For those travelling a
day early, bed and breakfast accommodation is available at
The Lion Hotel
at £40 per person twin and £50 per person single.

advance.
40 places available £295 all inclusive in a twin room
£315 all inclusive in a single room (20 available only)
Single rooms will be allocated on 'first-come first-served'
basis on receipt of a £50 deposit.
It is expected that all players are to play in
all the matches. Anyone wanting to play only 18 holes per
day should ideally find someone else who is also willing to
do this before signing-up to this trip.
Please note that handicap certificates may be required
and a club may refuse you access to the course without one. If
you don’t have a club handicap, you should try to get a
certificate from another source (we do have some out-of-date
‘spares’ that could be used - although we cannot guarantee these
will be accepted). Most courses we play do insist on handicap
certificates, although we’ve never actually been asked to
produce these. However, I’m giving you all warning just in case
a club decides to be really strict.
Those who have secured places can be seen further down the page.
The Lion Hotel
Y Maes, Criccieth, Gwynedd LL52 0LW
Owned and loved for over thirty years by 3 generations of
the Brown/Burnett family, the 3 star Lion Hotel is famous for
it’s welcoming atmosphere and offers everything that the modern
visitor requires. Dating back to the 18th century, the ‘Inn on
the Green’ has stunning views of mountains, coast and Criccieth
castle. All the rooms are as you would expect from a period
building, very different and individual. All rooms have a flat
screen TV with freeview, a direct dial telephone, hairdryer and
hospitality tray.

Pwllheli Golf Club
Golf Road, Pwllheli, Gwynedd LL53 5PS 9
miles and approx 20 minutes from the hotel
Set on the south facing coastline of the spectacular
Cardigan Bay, Pwllheli is one of the finest golf courses in
North Wales. Designed as an initial 9 hole course by Tom Morris
in 1900, the course was extended to an 18 hole course in 1909 in
line with the designs of 5 times British Open Champion James
Braid. The course combines tree-lined parkland golf with links
golf and at 6,100 yards par 69, it will challenge even the best
of golfers as well as ensuring that you get to experience golf
in a fantastic setting.

Nefyn & District Golf Club
Golff, Morfa Nefyn, Pwllheli, Gwynedd LL53 6DA
14 miles and approx 25 minutes from the hotel
Stunning is the only word to describe the location of
Nefyn Golf Club. No hole in the world confronts the golfer with
the distractions to be met on the par 5 12th. It has a blind
drive, a blind second shot, a public thoroughfare, a
crater-sized pothole and a public house. Ten of Nefyn’s holes
run alongside the sea (you can actually see the sea from every
tee on the course) and the experience is such that the club’s
boast is that few people play there only once. It is one of the
most beautifully situated courses in Britain but, as a true
championship course, can be beastly to the wayward (there are
holes with water on both sides where you can both hook and slice
into the ocean). The back nine, which is built on a peninsula,
is one of the most spectacular in golf.

Royal St. David's Golf Club
Harlech, Gwynedd LL46 2UB 16 miles and
approx 35 minutes from the hotel
One of the finest championship links around, Royal St.
David’s has hosted a throng of championships in its time and is
noted for a succession of long testing par four holes and five
short holes, which vary in length and direction; a feature is
the large size of the greens. The last five holes form a loop
through the dunes that provide a finish the equal of any. Only
twice do successive holes proceed in the same direction, so the
wind invariably spreads trouble among the dunes and although it
is not long, it has been described by professionals as the
world’s toughest par 69. Deep in Merlin country, the course is
in the shadow of the towering Harlech castle built by ‘Longshanks’
Edward I in the 13th century, whose majestic ramparts form a
wonderful backdrop to the golf course.
